We often speak of "having" time, or usually, not having enough time. In truth, time belongs only to God, and is one of God's gifts to us.
God established time when he created the heavens and the earth, establishing the movement and cycles of heavenly bodis. We experience the rotation of the earth as night and day. We observe a cycle of seven days as a week, in keeping with pattern of God's creation. We experience the orbit of the earth around the sun as a year, during which the tilting of the earth's axis marks changing seasons which we coordinate with the moon's orbit around the earth which we call months...which in turn help us locate anniversaries of important events and moments in which God breaks into human history.
Through daily, weekly, and yearly liturgical rites, "our" time is sanctified and we come to live in God's time.
